Detailed Description:
Entry level during which an employee receives both functional and organizational training under close supervision. Incumbents carry out assignments within well-defined practices, procedures and policies. Works independently on details of assignments, and has limited decision-making authority; most decisions are made or guided by the immediate supervisor. Decisions/actions may have an impact on the department's/divisionβs goals. Works under close Supervision and requires direction on how assignments are to be executed; begins to put forward ideas on how work assignments are completed. Establishes cooperative relationships to work effectively with colleagues; supports others and participates as a team member, and takes responsibility for own work commitments. Interacts directly with immediate supervisor, co-workers and team members; engages in routine exchanges of information; interactions with external contacts, if applicable, would be monitored.
Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:
Designs, lays out, and implements new manufacturing and test processes to support customer products. Helps determine inspection criteria for incoming materials. Coordinates and performs component selection and qualification. Defines process problems that lead to throughput or quality issues, evaluates cause of problem, implements solutions to stabilize processes, evaluates results. Evaluates new equipment, cooridinates software and hardware upgrades, sets equipment specifications and qualification tests and recommends new equipment. Develops test/assembly processes, associated fixtures and specialized tools. Automates where ever possible. Develops and executes assembly/test strategy for new products including design for manufacture and test analysis and feedback.
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies:
Engineering Foundation Competencies
Knowledge and understanding of the design process for systems and printed circuit boards.
Knowledge and understanding of systems and printed circuit board manufacturing processes and equipment.
Knowledge of industry and quality standards.
Knowledge of testing software, processes and methodologies and failure analysis.
Knowledge of IT platforms, database design and programming languages appropriate to area.
Knowledge of some or all of the following: UNIX, NT, database management system.
Good organization skills.
Ability to evaluate, diagnose and troubleshoot problems.
Knowledge of materials and components used in the construction of systems and printed circuit boards and subassemblies.
Knowledge of industry and quality standards for incoming materials.
Ability to evaluate materials, gather and analyze data and determine root cause of problems.
Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of internal and external customers.
Physical Demands:
Duties of the position are performed in a manufacturing environment with frequent exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, operating machinery, temperature extremes, hazardous substances, etc.
Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.
Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.
Typical Experience:
Zero to two yearsβ relevant experience.
Typical Education:
Bachelorβs degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
