Overview

This position is located in North Stonington, CT as part of Manufacturing Engineering for the Columbia and Virginia Class programs. ย Manufacturing Engineering develops, researches, designs, and procures special tools, fixtures, and other manufacturing aids required to facilitate submarine construction, maintenance, and overhaul on all classes.ย  D467 Manufacturing Engineering is seeking highly motivated engineering technical assistants with prior experience in the submarine operation, design, construction, or maintenance industry that can join the team. This position will involve supporting engineering personnel on the development and execution of fixtures as well as originating engineered procedures under engineering oversight and supporting their execution.ย

Primary job responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting Engineering in identifying and developing methods and tools for fabricating and assembling submarine components, structures, systems and modules.
  • Developing efficient arrangements of existing production facilities, and layouts for new, expanded or upgraded facilities.
  • Participation in Design/Build teams during new product design; review of Class drawings for manufacturing concerns; development of concepts for tools and fixtures; preparation of engineered sequence procedures for various activities; and preparation of lifting and handling procedures and drawings for rigging submarine components and modules.
  • Providing pro-active construction support and maintaining consistent interface with the construction trades in support of the above Engineering areas of responsibility.
  • Coach and mentor Manufacturing Engineers with the goal of developing the workforceโ€™s ability to practically apply engineering skills to ships construction.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have the ability to see an evolution practically from start to finish, understand the steps required to execute, and be able to articulate that process in written words as a procedure.
  • Have prior submarine operational or new construction experience that will give insight in to the fixtures, tooling, or procedures needed to execute an evolution.
  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work well in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Have a strong mentoring capability to communicate practical application of products being produced.

Qualifications

Required:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in submarine construction, test, operation, or maintenance, or related naval construction.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.

Preferred:

  • Relevant Associates or Bachelorโ€™s degree.
  • Experience with GD&T.
  • Experience with welding and structural fabrication.
