Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET)

As a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET), you have experience writing automation frameworks from scratch and can hold your own when compared to another developer, but your passion is automation and tools. You will own and advance our automated testing capabilities to deliver high-quality software to our customers. This includes designing, developing, and maintaining test frameworks and internal tools from scratch as well as automated tests for our web and mobile applications. You will solve exciting and unique testing challenges with a scope of impact across the organization, leverage the latest tools and processes, and lead the architectural design of our testing frameworks and internal tools. You will play an integral part in driving innovative solutions and shaping our automation approach as a champion of quality and mentor to the SDET team!

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Test Framework Architecture and Strategy
    • Lead the design and building of tools from scratch for internal use to ensure quality at enterprise customer scale
    • Coordinate testing strategies with QA leadership, Senior QA, and other SDETs
    • Analyze product requirements and make recommendations on automation testing strategies across all levels of the test pyramid
    • Drive framework design and implementation strategy sessions; break down those designs into incremental/deliverable user stories
    • Build out our performance testing strategy
    • Analyze and decompose complex Scheduling, Time Tracking, and Compensation Management features to determine an automated testing strategy
    • Investigate new tools and processes to enable efficient, effective, automated testing
  • Build and Maintain Tests
    • Provide solutions and drive suggestions for test stability and flakiness by analyzing integration and regression testing failures
    • Troubleshoot and own our Selenium Grid and other testing infrastructure
    • Build automated test suites to exercise our web application using C#, NUnit, and Selenium while suggesting best practices for the layout of our Page Object Model
    • Build and maintain our mobile testing framework using Python and Appium
    • Build and maintain backend tests using RestSharp and Postman
    • Build and maintain AWS Synthetics Canaries in JavaScript
  • Deliver High-Quality Software
    • Set up automated execution of tests and report on results throughout the development life cycle
    • Provide visibility into automation performance with metrics and reporting
    • Champion delivering high-quality software releases across our web and mobile platforms while shifting testing left
  • Guide Team Processes and Training
    • Serve as a mentor to other members of the team to expand their technical competencies and to adapt the best software engineering practices
    • Own the SDET code review process
    • Collaborate with developers, QA, and leadership to advance our automated testing efforts across the company

Requirements:

  • 2+ years of experience writing and extending automated test frameworks from scratch
  • 7+ years of experience writing automation test suites
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent industry experience
  • Experience writing code in an object-oriented programming language, C# or Java preferred
  • Experience with Selenium and Appium or a similar automation framework
  • Experience writing API automation frameworks using a client library like RestSharp
  • Experience with one or more of AWS, Selenium Grid, or Docker
  • Source control, Git experience a must
  • Excellent understanding of test methodologies and automation strategies
  • Advanced knowledge of performance testing and tools
  • Familiarity working with Mac and Windows operating systems, Linux a plus
  • Experience working with SQL, familiarity with Redis a plus
  • Experience working in CI/CD, Continuous Test, and Agile/Scrum environments preferred
  • Knowledge of MVC apps and testing strategies a plus
  • DevOps and IaC a plus, TeamCity and Terraform preferred
  • Strong critical thinking and superior troubleshooting/problem-solving skills
  • Exemplary interpersonal communication/leadership skills and upbeat personality
